As Featured in Councilmember Bob Blumenfield’s Newsletter: Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley Launches Cooper Literacy Program
The Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley Cooper Literacy Program is a comprehensive approach to helping local youth become proficient in reading and seeing reading as a tool to a better life and an enjoyable pastime. In 2007, Martin Cooper, the Club’s Chairman Emeritus, created the Cooper Reading Challenge where Club members read age-appropriate books and share what they’ve learned through a book report, picture, or participation in a group discussion. The program has grown since then and just last year, Cooper and his wife Barbara created the Cooper Endowed Fund for Literacy Programs to create the Cooper Literacy Program with an initial gift commitment of $100,000. Thanks to the leadership and generosity of the Coopers, this program will continue to encourage local youth to enjoy reading and explore their interests.
Councilmember Blumenfield is an Advisory Member of the Program and he and his team were happy to join Cooper at a recent benefit with Nancy Cartwright, famed actor and the voice of Bart Simpson on The Simpsons.
